BREP → DAE

Convert BREP to DAE

Turn a BREP CAD model into a DAE mesh. Curved surfaces are meshed finely enough to stay smooth, and the part keeps its real size and orientation.

  • Fine, accurate meshing of curved surfaces
  • Real size and right way up

How to convert BREP to DAE

  1. Add your BREP file

Drop it on the converter above or click browse. It opens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  2. Check the format is DAE

DAE is already selected. You can switch to any other output from the menu.

  3. Convert and download

What is BREP?

BREP is the native exact-geometry format of the OpenCascade kernel, used by FreeCAD, CadQuery and many engineering tools built on it.

Full name
OpenCascade boundary representation
Type
Exact CAD geometry
Used in
FreeCAD, CadQuery, Salome, OpenCascade-based tools
Strength
Lossless for OpenCascade-based software.
Limits
Rarely supported outside the OpenCascade family.

What is DAE?

DAE, also called COLLADA, is an XML scene format with meshes, materials and scene hierarchy. It is still used by SketchUp exports, Second Life and some older game pipelines.

Full name
COLLADA (Digital Asset Exchange)
Type
3D scene (meshes, materials)
Used in
SketchUp, Blender, Second Life, Google Earth, older game engines
Strength
Open, readable XML with materials and hierarchy.
Limits
Verbose; largely replaced by glTF.

Good to know

BREP stores exact surfaces; DAE needs triangles. We mesh each surface with a deviation of 0.05% of the part's size, which keeps holes and fillets smooth for printing and rendering.

Dimensions stay in the units of the original file, usually millimetres.

Questions

Will curves look faceted?

No. Curved faces are meshed with a tight tolerance, so holes and fillets stay smooth.

Does it keep the size of my part?

Yes. The mesh has the same dimensions as the CAD model.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
