STEP → GLB

Convert STEP to GLB

Turn a STEP CAD model into a GLB mesh. Curved surfaces are meshed finely enough to stay smooth, and the part keeps its real size and orientation.

  • Fine, accurate meshing of curved surfaces
  • Real size and right way up

How to convert STEP to GLB

  1. Add your STEP file

Drop it on the converter above or click browse. It opens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  2. Check the format is GLB

GLB is already selected. You can switch to any other output from the menu.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert and your GLB file is ready in seconds. Download it straight away.

What is STEP?

STEP stores exact CAD geometry: true planes, cylinders, cones and freeform surfaces joined into solids. It is the standard way to move parts between CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, CATIA and FreeCAD.

Full name
ISO 10303 (Standard for the Exchange of Product Data)
Type
Exact CAD geometry
Used in
SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, CATIA, FreeCAD, Onshape
Strength
Exact, editable geometry that every CAD program can open.
Limits
Not used directly by slicers or game engines; it has to be meshed first.

What is GLB?

GLB is the single-file binary version of glTF, the open standard for 3D on the web. It packs geometry, materials and textures into one compact file that browsers, Android AR and most viewers load directly.

Full name
glTF 2.0 binary
Type
3D scene (meshes, materials)
Used in
three.js, Babylon.js, Google model-viewer, Android AR, Shopify, Blender
Strength
Compact, fast to load, ideal for websites and AR.
Limits
Not used for CAD or 3D printing.

Good to know

STEP stores exact surfaces; GLB needs triangles. We mesh each surface with a deviation of 0.05% of the part's size, which keeps holes and fillets smooth for printing and rendering.

Dimensions stay in the units of the original file, usually millimetres.

Questions

Will curves look faceted?

No. Curved faces are meshed with a tight tolerance, so holes and fillets stay smooth.

Does it keep the size of my part?

Yes. The mesh has the same dimensions as the CAD model.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
