How to convert GCODE to DXF

  1. Add your GCODE file

Drop it on the converter above or click browse. It opens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  2. Check the format is DXF

DXF is already selected. You can switch to any other output from the menu.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert and your DXF file is ready in seconds. Download it straight away.

What is GCODE?

G-code is the list of moves a 3D printer follows. Converting it rebuilds the printed strands as a mesh, so you can see or reuse a print when the original model is missing.

Full name
G-code toolpath
Type
Printer toolpath
Used in
3D printers, Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, OctoPrint
Strength
Recover a model from a print file.
Limits
The result is the printed strands, not the original smooth model.

What is DXF?

DXF is AutoCAD's exchange format. We write your model as 3D faces that AutoCAD, LibreCAD and most CAD programs can open.

Full name
AutoCAD Drawing Exchange Format
Type
Triangle mesh
Used in
AutoCAD, LibreCAD, DraftSight, laser and CNC software
Strength
Opens in AutoCAD-compatible software.
Limits
3D faces only; not a solid model.

Good to know

G-code is a list of printer moves, not a model. We rebuild every extruded line as a thin strand, so the result looks like the actual print, layer lines included. It is useful for previewing a print or recovering a lost model, not for editing.

Questions

Can I get my original model back from G-code?

You get the printed shape, built from the extruded strands. Fine details are as accurate as the print itself, but the surface shows the layer lines.

Are materials and textures kept?

Colours and texture coordinates are carried over when DXF supports them. DXF does not store textures, so only the geometry carries over.

Will my model be upside down?

No. GCODE and DXF may use different "up" directions, and we rotate the model so it stands the same way in your software.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser.
