DAE → STL

Convert DAE to STL

Convert DAE files to STL in seconds. Geometry, UVs and materials are carried over where STL supports them, and the model lands the right way up.

  • Geometry, UVs and materials kept where supported
  • Correct orientation and scale

How to convert DAE to STL

  1. Add your DAE file

Drop it on the converter above or click browse. It opens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  2. Check the format is STL

STL is already selected. You can switch to any other output from the menu.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert and your STL file is ready in seconds. Download it straight away.

What is DAE?

DAE, also called COLLADA, is an XML scene format with meshes, materials and scene hierarchy. It is still used by SketchUp exports, Second Life and some older game pipelines.

Full name
COLLADA (Digital Asset Exchange)
Type
3D scene (meshes, materials)
Used in
SketchUp, Blender, Second Life, Google Earth, older game engines
Strength
Open, readable XML with materials and hierarchy.
Limits
Verbose; largely replaced by glTF.

What is STL?

STL describes a surface as a list of triangles, with no colour, material or unit information. It is the default file for 3D printing and is exported by almost every CAD and modelling program.

Full name
Stereolithography
Type
Triangle mesh
Used in
Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Blender, Fusion 360, SolidWorks
Strength
Universal support in 3D printing software.
Limits
Only triangles: no colours, no materials, no units, no editable CAD features.

Questions

Are materials and textures kept?

Colours and texture coordinates are carried over when STL supports them. STL does not store textures, so only the geometry carries over.

Will my model be upside down?

No. DAE and STL may use different "up" directions, and we rotate the model so it stands the same way in your software.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser.
